Tranquility on the Lake: SpaDels, Creating Health & Beauty

A day spa in the heart of Mooresville, SpaDels is much more than your average spa. Nestled in a cove that feeds into Lake Norman, this tranquil business has redefined the three "Rs" to stand for rejuvenation, relaxation, and restoration.

Opened in November 2001 by businesswoman Jan Wilson, Morris Wilson, Skin Care Specialty System president and hair dresser/barber Dale Helms, SpaDels began as one of many creative endeavors by the three at a football game. The spa takes its name from an old family surname in Belgium known for its healing springs. It has quickly become a popular choice on the lists of many who insist on luxury and invigoration.

Located within a home-like structure built seven years ago on Lake Norman, SpaDels is a completely renovated day spa with gender-neutral colors and a flowing floor plan. When entering the spa, you find yourself lounging in what used to be the dining room. On the upper floor, a walk-in closet has been transformed into a quiet waiting area. What was once the garage is now the pedicure/manicure room - with no remnants of past use.

SpaDels' signature style is providing hospitality, consultation and client-friendly service - a must in a business that holds the beauty, confidence and overall satisfaction of a person in their hands. As Lake Norman's only waterfront spa, SpaDels offers many services in specialty facials, body and nail care and state-of-the-art hair salon all overlooking the water. Varieties of wet and dry body treatments are available and the spa is equipped with a steam room and rain shower for before or after the services. The spa's body-contouring program offers a combination of treatments that effectively reduces the appearance of cellulite and slims portions of the body. In addition, body polishing, wraps and mud treatments, bronzing and exfoliating services are on hand. You can choose from many types of massage therapies, including Swedish /deep tissue, neuromuscular, hot stone therapy and tandem.

The signature service is the SpaDels Diamond O2 Treatment. This microdermabrasion technique offers a particle-free solution to damaged skin by erasing years of minor damage to the skin painlessly. Trained estheticians provide before and after care with specialty products, soothing the minor irritation that can accompany the treatment.

Salon hair stylists continually enhance their skills. In addition to co-owning the spa, Dale Helms also provides services to clients. His waiting list of eight to 10 weeks reflects appreciation of his honesty and experience by many who keep coming back. "I love to create and I love the challenge," Dale said, explaining his approach to treating every client as an individual. He stresses how important it is to communicate with clients. Understanding their desires and their lifestyle helps him to give clients the look they want.

In addition to its many services, the spa offers couples packages for facial and body treatments, discounts on additional treatments, customized care as well as business and group packages. SpaDels stocks such products as Bumble and bumble, Oxygen BotanicalsÔ , Pureology, Bath Bloomers, and Alidié. Morris says he and his spa co-owners are in the happy industry. "We want everyone to be happy," he said. The spa pampers about 1,200 clients each month. In the spring, it hosts a Client Appreciation Party to continue its motto of "Life is Good."

SpaDels clients feel at ease knowing each spa tech is not only meticulously skilled in his or her trade, but is cross-trained on other spa services. This basic knowledge helps make client education reliable and helpful. As for atmosphere, services and success, Morris says, "We haven't reinvented the wheel." That may be true but SpaDels has certainly refined and specialized the idea. Said Jan, "We're always trying to improve."

SpaDels is located on Williamson Road in Mooresville, just minutes from Statesville and Charlotte. The spa is open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
